Description

PPG PR1828 Class B is an advanced, rapid-curing sealant specifically formulated for aircraft integral fuel tanks. Designed to withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -62°C (-80°F) to 160°C (+320°F), with intermittent spikes up to 216°C (420°F), this two-part epoxy-cured compound ensures reliable performance in demanding aviation environments.

Key features:

Rapid-Curing Formula: Facilitates quick application and operational readiness.
Wide Temperature Range: Maintains integrity in temperatures from -62°C to 160°C.
Elastomeric Properties: Retains flexibility and resilience over prolonged exposure.
Superior Adhesion: Bonds effectively to various aircraft substrates for secure sealing.
Ideal for fillet sealing of fuel tanks and other critical fuselage applications, PPG PR1828B-1/2 offers exceptional resistance to jet fuel and aviation gas, ensuring long-term durability and safety. Its low sag, thixotropic paste consistency allows for easy application via extrusion gun or spatula, adapting seamlessly to different sealing techniques. Unlike traditional polysulfide sealants, it cures efficiently even at low temperatures and remains unaffected by changes in humidity levels.

Applications:

This sealant is indispensable for aircraft manufacturers, MRO facilities, and operators seeking reliable protection against fuel leakage and structural degradation in integral fuel tanks and fuselage seams. Its robust formulation and versatile application methods make it a preferred choice for ensuring aircraft safety and operational longevity.

For superior performance in aircraft fuel tank sealing and fuselage integrity, trust PPG PR1828B-1/2 to deliver unmatched reliability and durability

Product Review
PPG PR1828B Strengths / Good Points

Fast Cure Time (B-1/2 grade)
The 15-minute application life is excellent for quick turnaround jobs and spot repairs.
Minimises aircraft downtime compared to slower-curing alternatives.
Proven Fuel Resistance
Holds up extremely well against jet fuel and aviation gasoline.
Doesn’t soften, crack, or lose adhesion even after long-term fuel exposure.
Wide Temperature Performance
Reliable from extreme cold (−80 °F / −62 °C) up to +320 °F (+160 °C), with short surges to 420 °F (+216 °C).
Suitable for a wide range of operating environments, including high-altitude cold soak and ground heat cycles.
Excellent Adhesion to Substrates
Bonds strongly to aluminum and composite surfaces commonly used in aircraft structures.
Reduces the risk of leaks or rework.
Low-Sag, Thixotropic Paste
Easy to apply on vertical or overhead joints without dripping or slumping.
Clean, controlled application, especially when used with Semkit® cartridges.
Humidity and Temperature Tolerance
Unlike older polysulfide sealants, PR-1828 can cure reliably in less-than-ideal shop or hangar conditions.
Provides confidence in varied climates and working environments.
AMS 3277J Certified
Meets AMS 3277J, Type 2, Class B-1/2, Grade 1, which gives operators confidence it meets industry-accepted aerospace sealing standards.
In a nutshell: PR-1828B-1/2 is valued for speed, reliability, and fuel resistance. It’s ideal for MRO teams or OEM assembly lines where downtime costs money, and a sealant that works fast and holds strong is a huge advantage.

IDENTIFICATION
Known Spec / Standard Codes For PPG PR1828B

PR-1828 is qualified to AMS 3277J, Type 2, Class B-x, Grade 1 where “x” refers to the cure / application life (for example, B-1/2, B-1/2).
The “B-1/2”, “B-1/2” etc. are application life sub-classes accepted under the AMS 3277 specification.
Airbus / Boeing / Other PPG PR1828B OEM Specs

There is no direct public reference that I could locate where Airbus or Boeing have assigned their own internal specification code (like a “BAC-xxx”, “AMS-on-behalf”, or “Airbus Spec No. xxxx”) specifically for PR-1828.
On Boeing’s own supply site, PR-1828 is listed under AMS 3277 (which Boeing accepts), but not under a unique Boeing specification number.
Likewise, I did not find a source that shows an Airbus spec number for PR-1828 in public technical documentation.
Practical Implication
What this means for you:

If you are verifying whether PR-1828 meets the requirements for an Airbus or Boeing project, the critical thing is whether “AMS 3277J, Type 2, Class B-(your cure grade), Grade 1” is accepted in that project’s specification / maintenance or repair documentation.
Even though OEMs like Airbus or Boeing often have internal spec numbers or variants, in many cases what matters is adherence to the AMS standard and sometimes additional project-specific qualifications (e.g. parts approval, batch traceability).
If you are submitting this sealant for approval or procurement, you may need to reference “AMS 3277J” plus the correct cure grade (Class B-1/2, B-1/2 etc.), and possibly obtain certification or acceptance from the OEM.
